What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in cannabis. It exists in small concentrations within hemp, alongside several other related cannabinoids, including CBG and CBN. All of these ingredients exist on the broad spectrum of cannibinoids, but CBD is one of the most popular.

When CBD derived from hemp was effectively legalized in 2018 (you can learn more about that below), a wide variety of CBD products hit the market in a short amount of time. Most CDB

A surprising number of the CBD products that launched at the beginning of legalization have shown themselves to have lasting appeal.

Today you can purchase all of the following types of CBD, CBG, and CBN products to stock your shelves.

CBD Oil Tinctures

Tinctures are CBD in a liquid extract form. The bottles typically contain a dropper to allow purchasers to administer drops easily. Wholesale CBD oil is available in many different flavors and styles.

CBD tinctures are frequently sold as either CBD alone or full-spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum tinctures offer the complete spectrum of hemp-derived cannabinoids found in hemp and any related benefits. The full spectrum typically includes CBD, CBN, CBG, and CBC. It may also include trace amounts of THC.

Tinctures are preferred by customers who want fast, powerful effects. Drops delivered sublingually can have a rapid effect. Your customers can enjoy these tinctures in many different flavors, including mint, cinnamon, and lemon.

CBD Salve

CBD Salves are ointments that include CBD as an active ingredient. They are topical, meaning they are meant to be applied directly to the skin.

The salves are sold in many sweet and earthy scents to appeal to different tastes. The CBD in the salve is often mixed with various oil ingredients, including hemp and natural beeswax.

Salves are preferred by customers who plan to use CBD on aches, sharp pains, sores, and other skin surface problems. Customers who use salves often prefer organic ingredients. Many salves for sale include them.

CBD Softgels

CBD soft gels are capsules designed to be taken orally. The outside comprises a meltable casing (gelatin or other materials) around CBD. The CBD may be combined with other active ingredients to create a more robust supplement.

Softgels are designed to be as unobtrusive to consume as possible. They are sized to be swallowed in one gulp, and they have no outside flavoring.

These soft gels are a great option for customers who want to experience CBD without any associated marijuana taste or smell. You can also recommend them because they allow consumers to control the ingested dose closely.

CBD Pet Products

A world of CBD products are available in formulations that are non-toxic to cats and dogs. Popular pet products include edible treats, tinctures, and salves designed to be pleasant for the sensitive noses, skins, and digestive systems of pets.

People buy CBD pet products for many reasons. They are often seeking out minor pain relief from all-natural sources. Many people have also reported attempting CBD as a treatment for anxiety in small dogs.

Gummies

CBD gummies are edibles with CBD as an activated ingredient. These are candies with sweet and sour flavors provided by natural terpenes or artificial ingredients.

Gummies are preferred by many CBD purchasers for their great taste and ease of consumption. They are a great alternative for people who want fast effects but are not interested in smoking or vaping.

Bath Bombs

CBD bath bombs are made of CBD combined with other ingredients designed to spread and fizzle when they make contact with water, softening the water and filling the air with scents.

Bath bombs are an entertaining and relaxing way to enhance a bath, and CBD is believed by many to enhance it further. Buyers often use CBD bath bombs with the aim of producing a topical effect across all the skin covered by the bath water.

CBD Creams

Creams are a popular form of delivery for CBD. Customers use these creams as topicals, typically applying them to sore joints, aching bones, or irritated skin.

These high-quality CBD products are typically sold in tubs and resemble the popular creams that are sold in most beauty stores. Like most of our hemp products, you can find creams available at wholesale prices.

CBD Topicals

Topicals are CBD products that can be applied directly to the skin. Creams and salves with CBD are both widely available. Topicals are sold in various gentle scents. They may be naturally scented by hemp, essential oils, or other ingredients.

CBD Flower

Flowers are buds from the hemp plant that have been dried and prepared for use. Customers can break the buds down for smoking, cooking, or other needs. CBD flowers may be bred for higher CBD or have extra CBD applied.

CBD flowers are often sold as full-size buds, mini buds, or pre-ground. Ground CBD flowers are typically sold in pre-rolled joints ready for your customers to light them.

CBD Isolate

These CBD products are made from pure cannabidiol in crystalline powder form. They are typically purchased by customers who like to customize their enjoyment. Isolates are easily combined into baked goods, beverages, and vape oils.

CBD Vape Cartridges

These CBD products are designed to fit into a standard-size vaporizer battery. Customers appreciate vape cartridges because they are ready to smoke as soon as they are plugged into a battery.

Vape cartridges are typically sold at prices ranging from $10-60 per gram.

Why Do Consumers Want CBD?

Consumers want CBD because it is becoming popularly known as an ingredient capable of providing mild relief with little risk of side effects.

Though testing is ongoing, CBD is already officially approved to treat several disorders. For example, it is approved to treat two different types of epilepsy. It is used for many other reasons, based on word-of-mouth recommendations.

Already, CBD is understood to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic properties when used in lab studies.

While this early research is promising, it is also just beginning. CBD and other related cannabinoids have just recently been legalized for study in many countries. There will be many more studies in the future.

Remember that FDA approval for any type of use requires a long and involved process. No CBD products have achieved FDA approval for most of the effects listed below.

Your customers may ask you if CBD can help with all of the following—

Mild Pain Relief

A series of studies have shown that CBD can be effective as a pain reliever

Many of the most popular CBD products are used by consumers with the hope of pain relief. CBD and other active ingredients in both topicals and edibles are designed to provide pain relief.

The exact process involved in CBD pain relief is still being studied. Some studies suggest that the pain relief may be a result of the anti-inflammatory effect on the body. CBD may also increase the body’s level of anandamide (a compound associated with pain relief)

While no medications or products have been approved for pain relief in the US, the same cannot be said for other countries. Canada has approved at least one CBD medication for the treatment of cancer pain

Improved Sleep

There is a lot of disagreement about the appropriate dosage to take for sleep. Recommendations may range from 40-160 mg per serving.

Some limited studies performed on CBD’s relationship with sleep suggest that improved sleep may be a result of CBD’s effect on anxiety. The results of some studies have suggested that CBD can decrease the intensity of intrusive thoughts during rest.

Diminished Anxiety

CBD products intended to relieve anxiety are popularly sold to both humans and their pets. Studies have suggested that CBD may relieve some of the symptoms of anxiety

It has had promising results in tests that measured its role in relieving symptoms of social anxiety and PTSD

These products are typically sold in formats where the dosage can be closely controlled. Anti-anxiety-formulated CBD products are often sold as edibles, gummies, and soft gels.

No studies have conclusively demonstrated why CBD customers report feeling less anxious. The chemical has been shown to affect serotonin levels, which can play a role in mood and happiness.

Non-intoxicating/Psychoactive

CBD is highly preferred over THC by customers who want to avoid any psychoactive effects. So far, no studies have shown CBD to have intoxicating effects on its own, and many people choose to use CBD effects during daytime and work hours.

These products lack the intoxicating properties of marijuana because they are formulated to include only trace amounts of the psychoactive compound THC. Amounts below the federal limit of 0.03% THC will not affect most customers.

Some CBD products in legal states may include higher amounts of THC. CBD is only considered to be non-intoxicating when isolated. The presence of other cannabinoids may make products more intoxicating.

Can I Sell CBD,  CBG, and CBN Legally?

You can sell CBD, CBG, and CBN legally across the USA provided you do not operate your business in a state that has explicitly outlawed it. The CBD industry (when producing CBD under the right conditions) is federally legal.

It was not federally legal until just recently. The legal status of CBD shifted when the Agriculture Improvement Act (popularly known as the farm bill) was passed into law in 2018. This law made many changes, but two, in particular, are important for understanding the legal CBD market today:

  1. Industrial hemp was removed from the federal Controlled Substances Act. Now that it was no longer covered by this act, hemp did not have any federal laws outright banning its cultivation.
  2. No hemp-derived products were illegal as long as they did not contain THC over the legal limit. This limit was established in the bill as 0.03% THC. It’s such a trace amount that many compliant products feel THC-free. However, there are legal ways to sell THC, too.

These combined changes meant that the entire world of non-THC cannabinoids was open for growers and labs to explore—as long as those cannabinoids could be produced from hemp.

CBD produced from marijuana remains illegal federally. Marijuana-derived CBD is also illegal in Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

It’s not difficult to ensure that your store only carries the legal product. Any reputable supplier can show you lab work that proves their products are derived from legal hemp.

FAQs About Selling CBD Products

Do you have more questions about selling CBD products? We’ve collected some of the most common questions from store owners and provided the answers below. Our team would love to talk to you about any additional questions you may have about our CBD products for sale.

Can you buy bulk CBD?

Absolutely. As you can see from our selection, many of the most popular forms of CBD are fully available in bulk. You can find bulk CBD vape carts, edibles, tinctures, and many other products we sell.

The variety of CBD products available has exploded in just the last few years. You can expect to see a lot of new products coming soon.

Is selling CBD profitable?

CBD is a product that is selling popularly all over the United States. Thousands of companies are now part of this multi-billion dollar business. This business will likely get even larger as more states move ahead with other types of legalization.

Is CBD tincture the same as CBD oil?

CBD tinctures and CBD oils are not the same. These terms can be confusing because they may be used interchangeably. However, they have different formulas that may be very important for customers with special diets or conditions.

CBD oils have an oil base, meaning that the CBD is blended into whatever edible oil is used (such as olive or vegetable oil). Real tinctures, on the other hand, suspend CBD in alcohol rather than oil.

The products often look the same on shelves because both types are sold in small bottles and applied with droppers.

Do you need FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval to sell CBD?

No, you do not need FDA approval to sell most CBD products. This is because most CBD products are not reviewed by the FDA in the first place. You cannot tell customers the items are FDA-approved when they are not.

The only CBD products that have been reviewed and approved by the FDA are the medicines that have been approved for some seizure disorders.

What states can you not ship CBD vapes to?

Nebraska and Idaho do not allow any CBD products if they contain more than 0.0% THC. This level of refinement is not usually easy or necessary for most CBD products, so many CBD vape products simply won’t be available to ship to these states.

These rules can be frustrating for businesses. Fortunately, CBD comes in many more forms than just vaping products. Consider providing alternatives if your state strictly enforces vapes.

Why won't USPS deliver vape products?

You can have vapes delivered to you through the mail if you’re ordering them as a business. Consumers who want to buy directly online are less lucky.

The USPS announced a rule change in 2021 that banned the delivery of most vaping products to consumers through the U.S. They were required to make this change to comply with the Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Act.

The law and the rule were changed because minors were able to order e-cigarettes over the internet with no age verification. These changes were an attempt to close that loophole.

Fortunately, the rule exempts business-to-business shipments. We are still able to deliver vapes over mail to registered businesses.
